FAQ
1. WHAT ABOUT CONFIDENTIALITY?-------Everything you say in your session is kept completely confidential. The brief notes I may take are kept in a locked file in the office. No records go to any other parties (insurance, school, medical providers, family, etc), unless you request this, in writing. No information is stored or sent electronically; unless you choose to initiate an email communication. There are several reasonable legal exceptions to the rule of complete confidentiality:
------If you give substantial reason for me to believe you are at risk of harming yourself, or another person. ------If a child or dependent adult in your care is being abused. ------If a judge subpoenas my records 2. WHAT DAYS/TIMES ARE AVAILABLE FOR APPOINTMENTS?-----I have office hours on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and can schedule day or evening appointments. 3. HOW LONG IS EACH SESSION?-----Generally 60 minutes, but I try to be flexible as suits the progress during the meeting. 4. WHAT IF I'M LATE OR CANNOT MAKE IT TO THE APPOINTMENT?----I am less flexible here. We take it on a case-by-case basis. I understand that you may have an unpredicted situation or illness; but generally ask a 24-hour notice to cancel. We will discuss the fairness of your being charged for an unattended session, and explore lateness as we would other therapeutic issues. 5. WHAT IF WE DON'T "MESH"?-----Feeling uncomfortable in therapy is not uncommon, and you are encouraged to voice this at any time. Sometimes this can occur as a result of making progress toward dealing with disowned feelings or encountering old barriers to self-esteem. However, not every match is optimal, and I welcome your feedback and respect your sensibilities. I can help with suggestions for alternative therapy. Even a non-match experience can enhance your quest, and you will most likely leave with a feeling of empowerment. 6. HOW CAN I GET STARTED?-----By calling me at (319) 631-2881. Leave a message with your phone number, and good times for me to return your call; if I'm not able to answer at the moment. Or email at [email protected]. |
